Repeal attempts on Obamacare

Many attempts have been made by the house republicans to repeal this law and it ended up in the government being shutdown and obama and harry reed refusing to talk to people about anything to do with the law . this to me doesnt sound like president material refusing to talk to people just because you dont get your way and people want to fix what you messed up.

Repeal efforts

The ACA has been the subject of repeal efforts by Republicans in the 111th112th, and 113th Congresses:

Representatives Steve King and Michele Bachmann introduced bills in the House to repeal the ACA the day after it was signed, as did Senator Jim DeMint in the Senate.[362] In 2011, after Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives, one of the first votes held was on a bill entitled “Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act” (H.R. 2), which the House passed on a 245–189 vote.[363] All Republicans and 3 Democrats voted for repeal.[364] House Democrats proposed an amendment that repeal not take effect until a majority of the Senators and Representatives had opted out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program; Republicans voted down the measure.[365] In the Senate, the bill was offered as an amendment to an unrelated bill but was voted down.[366] President Obama had stated that he would have vetoed the bill even if it had passed both chambers of Congress.[367]

Following the 2012 Supreme Court ruling upholding the ACA as constitutional, Republicans held another vote to repeal the law on July 11;[368] the House of Representatives voted with all 239 Republicans and 5 Democrats in favor of repeal—it marked the 31st repeal attempt.[369][370] With President Obama’s reelection and the Democrats expanding their majority in the Senate following the 2012 elections, many Republicans conceded that repeal almost certainly will not occur.[371]

Job consequences of repeal

The House Republican leadership put forth the argument in favor of repeal that “this is a job-killing law, period.”[372] They contended that the ACA would lead to a loss of 650,000 jobs, attributing the figure to a report by the Congressional Budget Office.[372] However, FactCheck noted the 650,000 figure was not included in the CBO report referred to, saying that the Republican statement “badly misrepresents what the Congressional Budget Office has said about the law. In fact, CBO is among those saying the effect [on employment] ‘will probably be small.'”[372] PolitiFact also rated the Republican statement as “False”.[373]

Jonathan Cohn, citing the projections of the CBO, summarized that the primary employment effect of the ACA is to alleviate job lock: “People who are only working because they desperately need employer-sponsored health insurance will no longer do so.”[374] He concluded that the “reform’s only significant employment impact was a reduction in the labor force, primarily because people holding onto jobs just to keep insurance could finally retire” because they have health insurance outside of their jobs.[375]

Loss of hours for thousands of workers

Employer mandate and part-time working hours

The employer mandate is a penalty that will be incurred by employers with more than 50 employees, if they do not offer health insurance to their full-time workers. This provision was included as a disincentive for employers considering dropping their current insurance plans once the insurance exchanges began operating as an alternative source of insurance. Proponents of the reform law wanted to address the parts of the healthcare system they believed to not be working well, while causing minimal disruption to those happy with the coverage they have. Lawmakers recognized that approximately 80% of Americans already have insurance, of whom 54% (44% of the total population) are covered directly or indirectly through an employer, and 29% (23% of the total population) are covered by the government—mainly though Medicare and Medicaid. While 73% of the total population reported themselves satisfied with their insurance situation, significant minorities, even among those that reported favorably, had medically-related financial troubles and/or dissatisfaction with aspects of their insurance coverage, especially among the poor and sick. The intent of the employer mandate (along with a grandfather clause in the ACA) is to help ensure that existing employer-sponsored insurance plans that people like will stay in place.

However, because a company will not face the penalty if it has less than 50 full-time employees, many are concerned that the employer mandate creates a perverse incentive for business to employ people part-time instead of full-time. Several businesses and the State of Virginia have clarified the contracts of their part-time employees by adding a 29-hour a week cap, to reflect the 30-hour threshold for full-time hours, as defined by the law

President not admiting obamacare is bad

Visitors trying to log on to the Obamacare website early Thursday morning saw the same stubborn phrase that has roiled users for weeks: “The system is down at the moment.”

It’s been almost a full month since the HealthCare.gov website launched, riddled with technical problems despite a series of advance warning signs. And despite a chorus of apologies out of Washington, it may be another month before everything’s running smoothly.

Vice President Joe Biden became the highest-ranking administration official to apologize Wednesday for the botched rollout.

“We assumed that it was up and ready to run,” he told CNN’s sister network HLN. “But the good news is although it’s not — and we apologize for that — we are confident by the end of November it’ll be, and there’ll still be plenty of time for people to register and get online.”

Obama couldn’t log on

Biden said he didn’t even bother logging on to the Obamacare site.

“Actually, the President tried to get online, and my daughter tried to get online,” he said. “I did not, because it was clear that I was not getting online.”

Obama himself acknowledged that too many people “have gotten stuck, and I am not happy about it.”

“There’s no excuse for it,” the President said. “And I take full responsibility for making sure it gets fixed ASAP

the president cant log onto his own site after a month i think their is a problem

Setup of Obama Care

Obama care is designed to where the young healthy people are paying for Obama care they don’t need it unless an accident most of the time. This is a good setup but the economy can not support it the young people that are suppose to be paying for the older people cant pay the premiums because there are no jobs for them. The solution that most young people are taking are switching to medicare. This is saving them money but at the same time the people still using Obama care there premiums will go up because then they have to fund it less people same amount of funding needed.

Unemployment going up/Hours cut

People are having their hours cut because of Obamacare from full time to part time and some are even losing their jobs.

Avita Samuels has worked at the Mall of America in Minneapolis for the last four years, juggling a sales job with her studies in political science and law at the University of Minnesota. The 24-year-old has been the top sales associate for the last three years and works between 29 and 35 hours a week. But over the past few months, she said, she has watched as friends working in stores around her have their hours and benefits slashed – and she’s worried that she will be next.

Forever 21, the clothing store, told staff last month in a memo leaked to the press that it planned to cut hours and reclassify some full-time workers as part- time. The move, which the company denied had anything to do with President Barack Obama’s health reforms, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), will nevertheless help it avoid a mandate under the legislation requiring companies with 50 or more employees to offer those working 30 hours a week or more health insurance. Earlier this month, Seaworld, which operates 11 entertainment parks across the US, capped hours for part time workers at 28, down from 32, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Other retailers, such as Trader Joe’s and Home Depot have said they will no longer provide medical coverage for part-time employees, and will shift them instead to the public healthcare exchanges which open Tuesday, 1 October. Some employers have said their health costs will rise as a result of various provisions of the ACA, which takes full effect in 2015, when larger companies have to provide health benefits to full time workers or pay a $2,000 per-person fine.

Fake Obamacare Websites

Here is why you should not be able to sign up online for the people who have to sign up for Obama care the site is https://www.healthcare.gov/ and it sucks that the identity thieves are already putting these sites up and people are getting massive charges to their cards and opening accounts one women had 35 thousand dollars charged to her in accounts an identity theif has set up and the person is still not caught.

More than 700 websites have been created with names playing off of Obamacare or Healthcare.gov, making it likely that some Americans will mistakenly hand over private information to unknown third-parties.

For instance, there is a website — http://www.obama-care.us — that brands itself as part of the “Obamacare enrollment team,” directs people to an “Obamacare enrollment form” and asks users for their name, address, Social Security number and other contact information. According to a counter at the bottom of the page, more than 3,000 people have visited obama-care.us.

Obamacare website

As many people know that have been trying to sign up for Obama care the website is constantly down and when it does come up it crashes again due to the high amount of people trying to get on the site at the same time. The site had 620 million dollars put into it and 3 years of “professional work” it still doesn’t work. I heard on the radio today that President Obama gave out 2500 exemptions to big business owners to get the support of them for the cause but he refuses to give exemptions to people who ask even before October 1st. Republicans were trying to tell Obama after he launched it and their were problems to not fund the healthcare for a year and get all of the glitches and bugs out of the system to where there could be possible success out of the healthcare.

The healthcare.gov website was launched on the scheduled date of October 1 2013. Although the US government shutdown of 2013 began on the same day, healthcare.gov was one of the federal government websites that remained open through the shutdown. Although it appeared to be up and running, users quickly encountered numerous types of technical problems, and by some estimates only 1% of interested people were able to enroll to the site in the first week of its operations. Even for those that did manage to enroll, insurance providers later reported some instances of applications submitted through the site with required information missing. In its third week of operations, technical problems continued. “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare.gov

President Obama was sending people to a phone number to call and help get setup for the healthcare but they are just redirecting people to keep trying at the website, that was said to be down for 48 hours, until they get in. I just wonder why it is still being funded why waist the money and force people to get the healthcare and make males pay 99% more and females 62% more.

Universal Healthcare/Obama care

Universal Healthcare is a very common topic in the United States right now. I don’t believe we should spend money on this i think their our other problems that should be addressed above this one, such as pulling out soldiers from other countries and to stop being the world’s police. Obama care is very new to america this is somewhat similar to the Canadian health care system. Obama care has been out for 2 weeks now and they still can not even keep their websites up and running they have now spent 620 million dollars on getting this website set up and it is glitching and crashes whenever it comes back up. This healthcare system is going to cost the average male 99% more for healthcare and the average female 62% more. This program was said to be bringing the average household’s insurance bill down 2500 dollars per year but it is predicted to go up 7500 dollars per year. If some people can barely afford their rent and food right now where are they going to get 7500 extra dollars to put towards healthcare. They might have to travel double the distance for a doctor because of the doctor not being covered under their insurance and this ends up costing more money.
